tfabris: re: Gateway IP - yes sure you're technically right, but its harmless to set it to yourself if you only ping the local network and I've seen more problem due to missing gateway Ip than no gateway Ip, hence the idea to put it in.

wfaulk: I will bow to your greater skills in this area but AFAIK Windows 9X does NOT have a ipconfig command, only winipcfg. but its a good idea.
